Instructions
As part of a professional development initiative for employees, your employer, Waterhouse Consulting, has paid your tuition for a business writing course (ENL1813b Communications I) at Algonquin College. As part of the initiative, you are required to provide an update for your supervisor, Brian Waters (he/him), Director of Marketing, outlining what you have learned after 10 weeks of classes.
Mr. Waters is primarily interested in how the information that youve learned in the course will enhance your skills as his administrative assistant.
Heres a list of your typical duties:
Answering e-mail queries domestic and international
Scheduling meetings, taking minutes, answering the phone
Updating social media platforms for the marketing department
Arranging travel and accommodations
Purchasing office equipment and supplies
In a memo, provide Mr. Waters with a summary of what youve learned, what you feel is most relevant to your position, and how this information will add to your skillset moving forward. Use the memo (p.188, Figure 6.1) as a format template for your document. Submit your memo as a Word document through Brightspace.
Ill be looking to see that youve included references to elements from chapters 1-8 in your document, and that youve applied some of the business writing principles (conciseness, clarity, correctness - for example) in your document. Be sure to think about how to structure your message, and consider using vertical lists and headings to help organize your information.
Your document should not exceed two pages.
