"A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself" Joseph Campbell Directions: As an individual or in group of 2 or 3, reflect on and choosean inspirational/influential Indigenous person, past or present, and create a presentation about their life and impact. Share why you chose this person, and how each of you connect to the person or issue/event they stand for personally; what part of your identity (or life story) allows for this connection? Conduct research to present on what Nation they are from (i.e., band, Mtis Nation/community, etc.), where they grew up, what was their life like, how did they get involved in their cause, what was their inspiration/influence(s)? Were there pivotal moments in their life that caused them to grow/develop and go down that path where they are now considered a hero? Were there specific historical moments, policies, structures, events, that also influenced them (i.e., the Indian Act, an aspect of the fur trade, Residential Schools, etc.) What was/is their impact on society, on the issue they care about? What are the ripple effects (does it affect a whole community, city, country, how far does the 'ripple' go?) Did the person have an impact on you in any way? In order to conduct this study and reflection you will need to do research; A minimum of 3 references is required.
