Hello class,
Gasoline is something that most of us use on the daily basis unless you don't have a car, or you drive an electric car like Tesla. When it comes to petroleum you can only find it in certain location across the United States in Texas,Oklahoma, New Mexico there is also oil in Canada. You can also find oil rigs in other countries that are rich in oil like Saudi Arabia, Iraq, United Arab Emirates. Oil is used around the world and is essential in the supply chain. For example, raw material coming from Alberta, Canada makes of 80% of Canada's oil production. Since the oil sands in Canada mainly contains heavy crude and bitumen. "Canada's oil sands are the largest deposit of crude oil on the planet. The oil sands (or tar sands as they are sometimes inaccurately referred to), are a mixture of sand, water, clay and a type of oil called bitumen" (Oilgascanada, n.d.).
When it comes to the oil supply chain, the oil is pumped from the drilling wells that are then placed into pipes or storage tanks that well be loaded for transportation for a short period. These types of tanks are only stored above ground. Pipes are used to transport raw material from the tanks to either storage or refineries. Using Keystone Pipeline oil can be transported to refineries all over Texas where it can then be turned into gasoline. One gasoline has been refined it can be packaged and then will be counted for inventory. When an order is placed by the customer the gasoline will then be loaded and transported. With the help of using the pipeline system oil companies can lower cost and decrease the amount of waste. The products are safely delivered to customers all while increasing profit. Just take a look at Shell's.
