How to do the RACI Chart? thanks
Case Study:
Cutting Edge Sensors Ltd. is a medium sized corporation that hires both local and international workers to provide high quality sensors that can compete on the international stage
Their materials supplier (Bosworth Minerals) has a dedicated sales rep, Bob Smith. Additionally, for some reason the local newspaper is intending to run smear pieces about the way Cutting Edge disposes of their waste, their media rep is Joanne Walters. The Cutting Edge Sensors Ltd. project team consists of 7 team members, and several consultants. Four Electrical Engineers, Joe Peters, Mellissa Watson, Jeffery Eclectus, and Robert Dawes. One Senior Electrical Engineer, Andrew Coddington. One Research Specialist Dr. Rosaline S. Alagato. One Project Manager, Nigel Crowe. Consultants to the project include; Nick Frangello (Legal support), Peter Mathis (Accounting), and Gary Jones (Public Relations).
Production line workers include senior shop manager Daehyun Kim, who manages the production line work, with 19 experienced technicians and tradesmen performing the assembly and packaging. Fabrication workers include First Class Machinist James Wilson, who takes control of the CNC and CAD operations, with a team of 6 Machinists performing the metal working and operating the 6-axis CNC machines.
Phase 2 of the project involves a good deal of work for everyone involved in the project. The tasks identified and relevant Employees either responsible for, accountable for, consulted with, or needing to be informed include the following:
At the beginning there will be a Phase 2 kickoff meeting, which will be organized by the Project Manager, with the meeting being facilitated by the Senior Electrical Engineer, to outline the importance of the project, and what steps will be necessary to get the important aspects of the product completed. Next it will be important to have an Accounts, and legal meeting, to make sure that both financial and legal issues are being dealt with, The Project Manager will organize this task, however, the meeting will be hosted by both Legal and Accounting Consultants. After all preparatory meetings are complete, the Project will move into its design phase, this will involve the actual Design of the sensor, The design process will be led by the Senior Electrical Engineer and undertaken by the Electrical Engineers. The projects Research Specialist will need to be consulted on to make sure than up-to-date information is being used, and any relevant research is presented to the team.
Additionally, progress will need to be reported to the Project Manager at regular intervals. In parallel to the Design Phase, the Production Phase will Commence. This will begin with the formal Production design meeting, which will be organized by the Project Manager, and facilitated by both the Senior Shop Manager and First-Class Machinist. The Senior Electrical Engineer will need to be consulted about relevant production issues, and the Project Manager will need to be kept up to date with any issues. Once Electrical designs are finalized, the CAD design of the sensor housing, and fittings, can begin. The First-Class Machinist will be responsible for providing detailed CAD files, and documentation, which will be sent to both the project Research Specialist, and Legal Consultant, for suitability, and IP related issues respectively. The Project Manager will be organizing all these tasks. With the design of the housing and fittings complete, and all CNC files saved on the local server, the CNC work can begin. Once again, the Project Manager will be organizing all the task allocation, and the work will be performed by the Machinists on Cutting Edge Sensors Ltd. state of the art 6-axis CNC machines. FirstClass Machinist will oversee the process but will remain in a consultant role. Quality Assurance Assembly and Packaging will be the final step before any client hand-over. The QA process, assembly line (and final packaging) will be organized by the Project Manager, and performed by the Technicians/Tradesmen, with Senior Shop Manager being consulted for any production issues/halts/QA issues.
Client consultation will be organized by the Project Manager and facilitated by the Public Relations officer. Both Senior Electrical Engineer and Research Specialist will be consulted if needed over Teams. Once all tasks are completed, there will be a formal Phase 2 closing meeting, managers and team leaders of each task/phase will come together to perform a post-mortem on the project, to identify what went right, what went wrong, and what could be done better in the future. These include the Senior Electrical Engineer, the Senior Shop Manager, and the First-Class Machinist. The meeting will be facilitated by the Project Manager. The Project has now moved into the production phase, Cutting Edge Sensors Ltd. wants to identify which quality control issues to deal with immediately, as they have limited resources available to allocate. The issue they are having is that the production line is being halted due to various manufacturing faults. The specific issues that are causing the halts are as follows. Sensors not being adequately soldered to boards (86 halts per month), Screws not being tightened to spec (103 halts per month), Incorrect thread tolerances (66 halts per month), Tools not being replaced in time (77 halts per month)
