Purpose Statement

This study focuses on nurses' assessments of patient's stress levels after chemotherapy treatment between two groups of patients, patients who utilize prayer during treatment and patients who do not wish to use prayer during treatment.

Theoretical Framework

This is a qualitative study that uses nurses' assessments of patients' stress levels after chemotherapy treatment of patients who utilize prayer during treatment verses patient who do not utilize prayer. The theoretical framework used in this study is Leininger's theory of culture care diversity and universality (Steefel, 2018). This is the best theory for this study as prayer is often viewed as a norm in different cultures, but not all. Prayer can be utilized in many different forms and rituals, depending on the culture and the patient must guide the nurse in what is most effective and desired for him or her. Caring for cultures different from our own, the nurse must collaborate with the patient to learn what treatment will be most effective and therapeutic, especially when implementing prayer (Steefel, 2018). For this implementation to be effective and results accurate nurses must have a transcultural approach and be open to other culture's rituals and spiritual needs (Berhanu et al., 2021).
