My best training experience as a supervisee was when I was assigned a case involving Functional Communication Training (FCT), a protocol I had not previously implemented. The day before the session, my supervisor met to teach me about implementing Functional Communication Training, making my learning experience incredibly effective and enjoyable. The training started with a clear explanation of what FCT entails, emphasizing its role in teaching learners to use functionally equivalent communicative expressions instead of engaging in challenging behavior. Understanding that challenging behavior is a form of communication, FCT aims to teach individuals how to express their needs through communication rather than behavior.
