B) Project Background - briefly describe the project. INSTRUCTOR COMPLETED THIS SECTION
This project involves cutting to length raw material (branches and/or logs) in Dr. Scannell's yard for making rustic furniture legs. The process is taking too long, and some legs are cut too short making them unusable.
1) Conduct and video a process that you are directly involved with and that you will improve. The student and professor must reach agreement on the project scope prior to starting this effort. If you make a YouTube video you may paste the link below. Otherwise, upload the video to the dropbox.
INSTRUCTOR COMPLETED THIS SECTIONBUT STUDENTS MUST WATCH TWO VIDEOS.
STUDENTS: First, watch the "Dr. Scannell Background Rustic Furniture and Problems with Cutting the Legs" video that is posted to eLearning.
STUDENTS: Next, watch the "Dr. Scannell Continuous Improvement Project Chainsaw" video that is posted to eLearning.
2) Performance Metrics (Two parts - 2A and 2B). For both 2A and 2B, you must identify what is being measured, how it will be measured, what the current performance is, and what the targeted performance is for both the quality of the outcomes (2A) and the time it takes to complete the process (2B). Be very clear and precise. [Reference Module 02]
2A) For theoutcome(s) final quality, identify the key to quality parameter(s), how it (they) will be measured, the current performance level(s), the targeted performance level(s).
| Metric Description | Measurement Technique | Current Performance | Targeted Performance |
2B) For theprocess, identify the key to performance parameter(s), how it (they) will be measured, the current performance level(s), the targeted performance level(s).
| Metric Description | Measurement Technique | Current Performance | Targeted Performance |
3) Develop "Problem and Goal Statements" for your outcomes and process performance. There are four entries (3A, 3B, 3C, 3D) to be made in this document as discussed below. However, in the dropbox for this section another file must also be submitted. That file provides the templates for making the problem and goal statements for the quality and process outcomes. You should cut and paste your summarized statements from those forms into this document. [Reference Module 09]
3A) OUTCOME Problem Statement:
3B) OUTCOME Goal Statement:
3C) PROCESS Problem Statement:
3D) PROCESS Goal Statement:
4) Develop a SIPOC Diagram for this scenario. There are at least two suppliers, inputs, outputs and customers. Also, there areat least five high level process steps for the process map. [Reference Module 10]
