Failing Schools in Houston I.S.D.

What is the problem? One of the existing problems in my city is failing schools.

What proof do you have that it exists? In the Spring of 2023 The State of Texas took over the largest district in Houston due to students not meeting Staar testing requirements. The proof I have is it was first broadcast on the local news then publicized. Is it getting worse?Yes the failing schools is getting worst because Houston ISD did not get a grip on increasing testing scores even though the State came and took over schools, fired staff and created a panel of board members. Nor were they able to hire the proper amount of teacher because of the false pay they were putting in their offer statement.

Why should your audience care? The audience should care because it pertains to children getting the proper education and the proper preparation for state exams. Also the areas where schools mainly had poor testing have a high amount of minorities so, I feel it is a form of inequality. Howdoes the problem affect them?It effect the students view on educations and administrator that played a role in this. It also effects their self esteem and motivation on pursuing or completing grade school.

What is your tentative claim or thesis? Example: "We need to change/fix/improve/...."

The new mayor needs to petition to take Houston ISD back to being a public school so that it can be ran like an education facility for children to learn. And insuring that the proper educators will be hired.

How would you solve the problem?I would solve the problem by making sure that each school is regulated the same way as they schools with high testing scores. All schools should be ran the same no principal would get to freestyle and have their on curriculum and set of rules. Whatare a few possible solutions?Solutions involve the community coming together and having a voice by hosting a district outreach to discuss the problem and come up with a solution. Encourage graduates to apply to assist with these issues.

Which solution do you think is likely to be the best? (It is ok if your answer is tentative.)I believe each school should have the same policies and procedures throughout the district. There should be a preparation plan in place for testing for each school year and a designated administrator to get this task done at each school. Each one of the official should get together monthly in testing season to compare techniques and chart which one has the best testing outcome.

What do you want people to do?Go to city council meetings speak up voice their concerns and vote to get the district back to running like a public school. Even email the mayors office their concerns and ways the district can improve the educational needs for their children
