I cannot find the P-value for this problem 1 c. The method of obtaining the test stat is with the Z-Statistic via my book. You can see my answers below but I can find the specific T-value because the table doesn't go low enough for my value in my book not allowing my to find my P-value. All I can tell from the t-statistic value table is that the lower the t-stat, the higher the P-Value. I assume it's in the .2-something range.

1.(6 Points) A math class is given a difficult test and they score poorly on the test. The instructor asks each individual student approximately how many minutes they studied for the test to see if there is some correlation between how long they studied and their test score. Here is the data for seven students:

Student(n): Mins Studied (x): Score (y):

1 60 78

2 85 42

3 78 68

4 90 53

5 93 62

6 45 50

7 51 76

Use a Spearman rank correlation test to determine if there is significant correlation between these two variables.

a.State the null and alternative hypotheses.

H0: Ps = 0: There is no correlation between study time and test scores (no significant correlation)

H1: Ps > 0:There is a correlation between study time and test scores. (As x increases y increases)

b.Compute the sample test statistic.

r = 1 - (6 x 68)/7(7^2 - 1)= -.2142

As this value is close to 0 than -1, this indicates a very weak (perhaps nonexistent) monotone relationship.

c.Find the p-value.

P =

d.State the conclusion at the .05 level of significance.

The P-Value of the test statistic (-.214) is larger than a P-value of .10 which would be would be larger than .05. I could not find it on the table provided in the book. However, ss the test values grow smaller, the P-Value number increases according to the table, so by that logic the p-value is < .10 which is > .05. As a result, we fail to reject the null hypothesis of no correlation between study time and scores because there is not enough evidence to claim otherwise.
