Create a blank project.
Open the Project Information dialog box and enter the start date as todays date.
Enter Gwendolyns Gourmet Cookbook as the title by selecting Advanced Properties from the
Project Information section from the Info section of the File tab.
II Enter Tasks
Click VIEWGANTT CHART TOOLS and enter the following tasks:

Handoff to Editorial

Organize manuscript for copyedit
Copyedit
Incorporate copyedits
Handoff to Production
Design and Production
Design cover
Set pages
Design interior illustrations
Pages Review
Proofread and index
Incorporate first pages review
Send proofed pages to Production
Enter page corrections and index
Color prep and printing
Send to color house
Generate proofs
Print and ship
Type the name of each item into the Task Name column of the Entry table, beginning with the first row.
Note: the underscore represents major tasks in the outline.
Save your file by selecting File, Save As Name your project, YourLastNameCookbook
Click Project Summary Task and Summary Tasks from the FORMAT tab under GANTT CHART TOOLS.
Gwendolyns Gourmet Cookbook should appear in Line
This project has five summary tasks: Acquisition, Editorial, Design and Production, Pages Review and
Color prep and printing. Click on Receive manuscript under Acquisition and drag the mouse through the
cells to Handoff to Editorial. Click the Indent task button on the Ribbon under the Schedule group of the
Task tab. Do the same for the tasks under Editorial, Design and Production, Pages Review and Color prep
and printing.
III. Enter Task Durations
Enter the following durations for each task:

The tasks with a duration of days are milestones.
Make all tasks Automatically scheduled tasks by clicking the Task Name column heading then the
Auto Schedule button under the Task tab, Tasks group. If changes are made, you may need to repeat
this step to reset all the automatically scheduled times.

Click on the task that will be the predecessor Receive manuscript hold the CTRL key down then click on
the task that it precedes Edit content In the Task tab, click the Link Tasks button under the Schedule
group. If the tasks are one right after another hold the mouse down and drag until all tasks are selection.
Type in the dependency numbers when there are more than one dependency.
Several tasks require restrictive dependencies. For example

Doubleclick the Task Name for the first task, Design and Production, as shown above. Click the
Predecessors tab in the Task Information dialog box. Click in the Task Name column and select Editorial
from the Drop Down list. Click the cell under Type and select StarttoStart from the dropdown list. Do
the same for the second task, Design interior illustrations. For the third task, Print and ship, doubleclick
the Task Name, click on the Predecessors tab, click in the Task Name column and select Generate Proofs
from the Drop Down list. Click the cell under Type and select FinishtoStart from the dropdown list.
