I learned from chapter 8 that effective communication is the foundation to provide quality care. It involves active listening, showing empathy, active listening. I will use this knowledge by using therapeutic communication techniques to build trust with patients, especially when they are anxious or in pain. As a Nursing student and future Nurse Professionalism means being respectful, attentive, maintain eye contact, create safe place for patients, ask open ended questions and clear speaking with co-workers, patients and everyone. Practicing strong communication skills not only help prevent error but also promotes healing and teamwork, which are vital for patient safety and positive outcomes.
I believe that communication is very important in this job because we are one of the first people that the patient see, so we have a duty to provide good care. As nurses we have to educate the patients about their health, treatment, and ensue that they are following the treatment plan when they get discharge. As nurses we also have to talk to family member so we have to keep in mind that for every situation there is a different ways to communicate.
