I need a general guide made It does not need to be exact it just needs to be something that I can work off of to understand how to go about this project. Any help is appreciated and will be liked!.
our assignment is to prepare a disaster recovery plan for the key business systems that support the primary work processes of the University of Memphis. You are familiar with these, having analyzed them closely for your The assignment consists of two parts, an analysis and the actual disaster recovery plan.
Analysis The first part of the assignment consists of a risk and vulnerability analysis. As you recall, for your assignment you were asked to determine what operating model (unification, coordination, etc.) you believe the University most closely resembles. You are now going to use that knowledge, and combined with the disaster recovery requirements listed below, you will write an analysis of the current risks and vulnerabilities, and how they would impact business operations at the University if they were unavailable.
For example, lets say you selected the unification model for your midterm exam. Looking back at that model, identify which components are critical and then imagine if they suddenly became unavailable. How would this impact business operations?
Disaster Recovery Plan Once you have completed your analysis, you will then create the actual disaster recovery plan. Here you will recommend (in detail) a series of key steps and provisions to ensure the recovery of vital services and processes underlying the work of the University.
Ambrose, Chapter 11, will guide you in this, but as a primary overview, your basic steps would be:
- Gather a set of disaster recovery requirements
- Make use of the user requirements document (link below)
- Identify risks and vulnerabilities to hardware and software systems of the enterprise.
- Identify risks and vulnerabilities to business systems, services and continuity in the enterprise.
- Describe in detail your plan to either mitigate or eliminate the previously identified risks with respect to disaster recovery planning.
University System User Requirements
- We do three key things in this University:
- Teach
- Research
- Administration
- MyMemphis is the Universitys ERP system. A large portion of processes and workflows (Grades, class scheduling, fee payment, etc.) rely on MyMemphis, and thus must be considered in the disaster recovery plan.
- Because so many of our key processes rely on cloud based applications and servers, our telecommunications infrastructure is critical. The ability to communicate with cloud services such as eLearn and Microsoft 365 for email and cloud storage is essential. To that end, a high level of priority is given to the ability to reach these resources in a disaster recovery scenario.
- Because we are heavily virtualized, our reliance on the datacenter is very high. This should be taken into consideration with respect to backups and redundancy.
- I am far less concerned about wireless access to the campus network than wired. In a disaster recovery scenario, wired connections should take precedent over wireless. The ability to authenticate users is critical, since this is how key off-site applications (i.e. elearn or Microsoft 365) allow faculty, staff and students to login with their standard university username and password.
- I am particularly concerned that my vendors for key systems are also involved in my disaster planning and recovery process.
