A specific action plan created to prevent accidents and occupational diseases is known as a health and safety program. Occupational health and safety laws in the USA demand some sort of a program. These programs help an organization meet OSHA requirements in that companies are establishing a set of practices that find and fix hazards in the workplace before they cause injury or illness to their employees.

A well-designed health and safety program will benefit the organization because it provides tools for informing workers and managers about workplace hazards and control. Workers and managers are educated and trained to work more safely and be more productive. However, another function of education and training is to provide employees and managers with a better understanding of the safety and health program itself so they can participate in its creation and implementation.
