I need help determining an Independent and Dependant variable.

Scenario:

I am conducting a research study of a group of early childhood aged children. The goal of the research study is to determine if toxic stress, trauma, or adversities impacts development in children. The children's parents will complete an ACEs quiz to determine exposure to adversities and trauma and then they will also complete an ASQ developmental questionnaire to determine the score and performance on development.

The study will compare children that score a 4 or above on the ACEs quiz to the children that score below that and their developmental scores.
