Session Notes

The Client and the therapist both appeared engaged in the conversation. The client's body language was relaxed and sat back in the chair in a comfortable position (Dr. Todd Grande, 2016). The client was dressed nicely and appeared showered. The therapist seemed relaxed when talking with the client and faced the client to the side. They were both able to see one another's facial expressions. The client and the therapist both talked with one another instead of at one another. The tone in their voices was calm and neither one of them raised their voices at one another.

Communication skills

The therapist used a lot of repeating back what the client said. The therapist would rephrase what the client stated to make sure they understood correctly (Dr. Todd Grande, 2016). The therapist helped move the conversation along where the client did not feel like the therapist was pushing the conversation. The therapist would refer from the original incident of the fire and it being scary to where the client wants to feel more connected with friends, family, and coworkers (Dr. Todd Grande, 2016). The therapist helped navigate the situation to ending the conversation on a positive note with the client. The therapist did a good job demonstrating existential therapy by going back to the anxiety caused by the fire and relating to how the client now feels more connected with life (Wheeler, 2022).
