I need help understanding how to pass many arguments as a string to a function in javascript.

I am used to a function with multiple arguments like

function myFunction(p1, p2) { return p1 * p2; }

But in my homework they want me to build a function that receives the argument like this:

play("init=random;"+ "voisinage=Moore;"+ "m=20;n=40;"+ "min=1;"+ "evolution=batch;" + "colors=4;");

Why would we do it this way?
