I read over the same section in the chapter, and I agree that it is only possible to have the meeting members keep their focus on the issues. I agree with keeping meetings short, but there is a tradeoff to keeping them short and focused. I am very intrigued by how Jeff Bezos conducts his meetings. Most of us have heard of a term coined by him called the two-pizza rule, that the number of meeting participants must be sufficient if two pizza pans are served. He believes that with a small

number of participants, he feels it is easier to think when he leads a meeting. It also minimizes the existence of differences of opinion that are too complex. This method has begun to be widely used by other company leaders so that meetings are much more effective and do not waste time.

Another meeting rule Bezos implemented was to eliminate PowerPoint Presentations during meetings. Now, this I can agree with. Most of the time, these are just summary points that are easier to comprehend with the representation. Amazon offices are now beginning to replace PowerPoint with a six-page memo compiled with more narrative. But to be able to fill in the memo appropriately, the meeting representative will usually write it down well in advance, then rewrite it by his team to complement and evaluate each other.

The last meeting rule at Amazon is that the CEO will provide a moment of silence for members to read a previously written memo before the meeting starts. This tactic is considered more effective because all participants understand better what will be discussed. So, the memos they write are still helpful and can be a guide during the meeting. I need to understand this tactic and how this can impact positively fully. Still, I can only diminish a few things Amazon does, considering its growth since its inception in 1994.
