I. Selecting Topic and Sources:

Find three (3) sources from different authors and publications describing the same event or lawsuit, ideally related to at least one of the topics discussed in class, addressed in our textbook readings and related to business. If your event our lawsuit is not so related, please feel free to discuss with me your proposed event or lawsuit. Your sources should be published after January 1, 2010 in a newspaper, business magazine, academic journal, or reputable online source (e.g., Cornell Online Library, not Wikepedia). Examples of sources include The Financial Times, Forbes, Bloomberg, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Business Week and Wall Street Journal. These sources regularly post news articles about business law topics. Attaching a portion of the complaint related to the lawsuit or the contact at issue would also be appropriate and count as a source. Make sure that your sources raise at least one legal issue in business or examine at least one business topic from a legal perspective. The sources should be more than two paragraphs and provide sufficient background and detail to enable you to write about its legal significance.

II. Writing the Paper:

In Part I, state the legal issue or issues that the articles address. Cite pages in the book to the extent applicable for the source of the issues, ideally using either APA or MLA citation style. In Part II, set forth the legal rule or legal rules at issue in the articles. Again, cite pages in the book to the extent applicable. In Part III, analyze the articles from both sides of the issue(s). This should be the majority of your paper. In Part IV, briefly but boldly express your opinion, or conclusion, about the issue(s) addressed in the articles, and why you hold that opinion. Your paper should be 400 to 600 words long.
