Discussion - Week 6
Programming Languages
In this course, you have worked with the Visual Basic programming language. This is just one of many different programming languages utilized in information systems. Various programming languages have different strengths, weaknesses, and purposes. The best programming language for developing a mobile app is not necessarily the same as the best of creating a windows form. Run-time scripts meet different needs than executable files. Commonly encountered languages include Ajax, ASP.net, C++, C#, html, Java, JavaScript, Objective-C, Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby, Shell, SQL, TCL, Visual Basic, and XML.
Select one of the languages listed above or another language of your choice. If you are not interested in one of the languages most commonly encountered now or if these have already been discussed by others, you may find it interesting to consider older languages like Basic, Cobol, Fortran, Lisp, or Pascal. Or you may wish to search for other languages to research.
Briefly describe the language including what type of language it is and when and why it was developed. Describe what the language is useful for with examples of when it might be utilized in an information system.
Please do not repeat a language already described by one of your colleagues. Repetitions will not receive full credit. To facilitate this, you must include the language you are describing in the subject line of your post.
