"Niche is an online tool to assist parents with determining which schools are best suited for their children. Niche is driven to provide data that is meaningful to families when it comes to education. On the website it states, "Grades are assigned based on how each school performs compared to all other schools included in the ranking by using the following distribution of grades and z-scores. While most rankings generally follow this normal distribution, there are slight variances across each ranking, so the actual counts and distribution may vary"(Niche.com). Niche uses databases from the US Department of Education, U.S. Census, and many others to curate their ranking for schools.

• What: Test scores, graduation rates,demographics like age, sex, income, ethnicity, etc.
• Where: U.S.
• When: As far back as we've been able to collect the data and save it. Specifically the Department of education in 1867
• Why: To help parents determine the best fit for their children's education

As a parent myself, some questions that arise with the choices of databases Niche uses are:

• Does average salary impact the average test scores of students?
• Does school ranking have any correlation to crime rates or is it causation?
• How does the population correlate to the school ranks?
• Does any of this information help with future decisions for school funding. Do higher ranks get more funding and lower ranks suffer?"
