The CEO has expressed concern about the potential violation in which BCBST reported 57 unencrypted computer hard drives were stolen that contained protected health information (PHD) for over 1 million individuals including member names, social security numbers, diagnosis codes, dates of birth, and health plan numbers. The CEO has asked your department (class) to discuss the potential violation in relation to the HITECH Act and in particular, the Breach Notification Rule.
