Question: ii ) Re - DO the hydraulic flood simulation with flows corresponding to the probability of occurrence of 1 . 2 5 and 1 %

ii) Re-DO the hydraulic flood simulation with flows corresponding to the probability
of occurrence of 1.25 and 1% respectively; starting from the upper cross
section (the most upstream section). Use Table 2 as a basis.
(25 marks)
iii) Re-Do the simulation if the Manning's coefficients values in i) have increased
by 59% and 87.5% respectively for all cross sections.
(25 marks)
iv) Write a comprehensive report that includes all simulation cases.
(20 marks)
NOTE:
Technical report to include an executive summary, introduction, literature review,
methodology, data availability, findings (results) & discussion, Conclusion &
Recommendations, References.
All-important plots such as power of right overflow bank (ROB), left overflow bank
(LOB), main channel, water profile, Froude number, versus main channel distance,
ETC, ETC to be included. Tables corresponding to the plots should also be
included. Include as much information/findings from the modelling process.
Screenshots (only for flow of 2000m3s) like those shown in the tutorial (refer to
TASK 2) given to you MUST be included in the report as Appendix.
Minimum of 10 references to be PROPERLY cited in your report (DO NOT include
nor cite WRC Report No.1102/1/03, by JS Beck & GR Basson in your
references).
Report of size MUST BE between 20 and 60 pages, including Appendices.
The solution of this project is NOWHERE TO be found and this project has not
been done before. Hence DO NOT just copy a given flow simulation from existing
literature on Pongola River as you will be awarded ZERO.
Marking rubric will be provided in due course
