Implementation strategies are the methods or techniques used to enhance the adoption, implementation, and sustainability of a clinical program or practice. As such, implementation strategies play a pivotal role in implementation science. Researchers and implementers typically select implementation strategies to overcome formatively identified barriers to using an evidence-based intervention or practice (e.g., skepticism about evidence, poor fit with organizational processes). Given the number of implementation strategies available, selecting the most appropriate implementation strategy can be a challenge for researchers and practitioners. Fortunately, tools for matching barriers to implementation strategies have been developed to help make the selection process easier.
