In completing the DAACS Self-Regulated Learning Assessment, I benefited greatly from the numerous amounts of information provided. I learned things I should sustain, as well as areas where I can improve. Most importantly, I learned reasons why I do certain things and tips on how to improve all areas.One of the biggest things I learned is that I seem to have the right mindset and self-motivation, but I tend to lack some strategies to put my motivation into play. One area where I can improve is managing my time. As I have a hectic schedule, I tend to be in such a reaction mode that sometimes things are missed. Some expected outcomes for me are missing appointments, putting off study sessions, and last-minute assignment completion. With the feedback from this assessment, some takeaway tips are to take breaks, prioritize activities, and use my calendar better. I thought I was pretty good at managing my time; however, with these additional tips, I can get better.Regarding my metacognition skills, I was surprised that I scored so high.Although I do plan far in advance for projects, work, and event planning, I feel I lack in the areas where I should take the time to prepare, monitor, and evaluate my own life. The monitoring section was one area where I was recommended for improvement, which I can understand. During my daily life, I do not take the time to stop and consider whether I am grasping the meaning of what I am reading. It is my nature to learn as much as possible and apply myself until I am successful. I hope to improve my monitoring skills by stopping more frequently during readings.Finally, I learned that I am not just annoying but also motivated. I am joking, but I do tend to be very motivated when it comes to completing tasks.Like everyone else, my motivation fluctuates from time to time. Managing test anxiety and self-efficacy were two areas in need of improvement. This makes perfect sense to me. The two tend to feed off of each other, in my opinion. When it comes to certain activities, such as tests, I usually second-guess my decision. It is as a result of this that test anxiety begins to build, which, in turn, reduces my self-efficacy. By using positive self-talk and better preparation for my tests, I can counteract this tendency. I will be able to minimize unnecessary test anxiety by doing so.To conclude, I found this exercise to be beneficial. Based on some basic core questions I would not have thought to ask myself, it was interesting to see what category I fall under. Our ability to grow consistently is also very encouraging, in addition to learning that we can do so consistently. It will be interesting to see how I have improved when I retake this assessment in the future. In the meantime, I will do my best to continue to improve.
