In my daily everyday life I probably only use basic math for tips when my friend and I go out for lunch. besides this I often have to do calculations during tax season, to figure out the charges I need added for the preparer versus whats being charged for the program and bank product. With fractions I would probably say that when tipping is when I am most likely to use some type of fraction. For some reason every time I think about math what comes to mind is My dear aunt sally. Who doesn't remember these math rules multiple, divide, add and subtract. I don't always use my calculator, I am a bit old school and enjoy working a problem step by step. I think calculators come in handing later on when dealing with more formulas but for basic math and arithmetics a person should do well with pen and paper. I would use mental math more when I was a cashier for Mcdonalds sometimes people would give you a bill and then once you rang up what they gave you they wanted to give you change so you can give them a full dollar or not give them
