$3.$ The text Customizing and Woodworking describes several precautions to minimize the risk of ruining a stock blank while inletting. Summarize the following concepts:

a$.$ When the wood has been cut away to within $1/16$th$$ of the correct depth, the stocker then proceeds very slowly, frequently trying the barrel and receiver to see where the high spots are.

b$.$ The grain of wood usually requires you to $[$work$]$ in one direction only...working in the opposite direction can cause you to split the wood.
