Both Dr$.$ Ford and Judge Kavanaugh testified for hours, but the hearing ended much as it started: he said, she said. Dozens of news articles were written about Dr$.$ Fords credibility, but the Senate ultimately approved the appointment of Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.What is the responsibility of a journalist in such a case as this one where it is difficult, if not impossible, to get to the truth of the matter?A journalist is responsible to listen to both sides, decide which one presents the best defense, and accurately portray that side to the public.In cases where it is difficult to determine the truth, a journalists responsibility is to ensure that the opinions of his or her news organization are portrayed correctly.A journalists responsibility should be to give sources the opportunity to make and respond to claims and report the truth as it appears.What a journalist writes is the responsibility of the news organization to which he or she belongs, and editors should always make the call about what to print.
