In the slide set, "Ethics 8" there is a two dimensional field based around two questions, the sense of divine presence and the sense of the universe as headed toward goodness, decay, or in-between in conflict. Every human being has some intuitive sense of where they are on each dimension. Your instructor believes that the universe is headed toward goodness, but in very significant conflict. He also believes he is under close observation by divine presences. That places him well off the main line of human reflection on the nature of the universe, a kind of conservative mystic. Politically that leaves him in the position of being a relatively traditional social democrat, but disconnected from the need for social action.

Reflect on your own intuitions around these two dimensions. Where do you see yourself? Do the political positions seem to fit? How well do they make sense of how well you get along with others or what purpose you see in social action? What does this sense of moral intuitions give you? How does it change your sense of the political process?
