In this assignment, you will select a business (either one we provide or your own business or one you work for) and develop a SMART Goal and appropriate KPIs. Each of these components corresponds to worksheets you have seen throughout this week. There are 3 required parts to the project:

  1. Business description for the selected business
  2. SMART Goal worksheet
  3. KPIs worksheet

These are key components for understanding your business goals and metrics. Without this groundwork, it is difficult to build an appropriate target audience and customer journey, which you will work on next week.

You will view the SMART Goals and KPIs of your classmates and learn how to meet the needs of a variety of businesses through reviewing your peers.

To complete the project worksheets, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Business Description

Write a brief description about the business you will be using for this project. Your business description should answer the following questions:

  1. What products or services does the business offer?
  2. What type of business model does the business follow (e.g. B2C, B2B, etc)?
  3. Is the business brick and mortar, online, both?
  4. Is there any key contextual information that needs to be included here in preparation for completing the remainder of the project? (e.g. a new product is being offered)

Step 2: SMART Goal

Write a SMART Goal for the business you have selected. Make sure your goal directly relates to the business and that your business description provides all contextual information necessary to connect with your SMART Goal. Make sure your SMART Goal meets the five criteria necessary to make it SMART:

  • Specific - What needs to be done?
  • Measurable - Can it be measured?
  • Achievable - Can it be done?
  • Relevant - Should it be done?
  • Time-bound - When will it be done?

Step 3: KPIs

Draft three Key Performance Indicators. Each KPI should:

  • Directly relate to the business and the SMART goal you drafted
  • Be quantitative
  • Be directional (be able to go up or down)
  • Include the metric you will use to track the KPI
