Invoke the First Law of Geography and identify ONE region that you are very familiar with and to identify and describe it as a “cultural region”.
What sets this region apart from its neighbors?
What makes it a region, in terms of cultural signals in the landscape?
Follow the basic outline provided below in building a case for the culture sub-region you
have selected:
a) identify the location/boundary of your region (Absolute and Relative location)
b) What is the common (local vernacular) name of this region?
c) Identify the common or unique characteristics of the natural landscape
d) What is the unofficial capital city/town/place or primary area of this region?
e) What identifying characteristics are associated with the region (e.g. landmarks, tourist sites, famous aspects of the area)
f) For each of the following culture traits, identify a notable example associated with your region. For each trait (not all need be used or even appropriate to your selected region),
make your best guess and decide about whether it is unique (found exclusively in this region), prevalent (not unique to the region but more prevalent or widespread than elsewhere), or the same (as most other regions in this part of the world). Feel free to create a table or use point form here.
