In this week's assigned reading and lecture material on (Ch 3) The External Environment, we introduced Michael Porter's Five Forces Analysis, an environmental assessment tool used by business leaders and strategist to identify how much profit potential exists in an industry. The Five Forces Analysis considers the interactions among the competitors in an industry, potential new entrants to the industry, substitutes for the industrys offerings, suppliers to the industry, and the industrys buyers. If none of these five forces work to undermine profits in the industry, then the profit potential is very strong. If all of the forces work to undermine profits, then the profit potential is very weak. Reply to this discussion board with the following... Identify the (1) force that you find most threatens the profit potential of a given industry. Briefly discuss an observation (other than the examples provided in the text) of this force playing out in an industry or business of your choosing. Comment on at least two (2) of your classmates' posts (*NOTE other posts will not be visible until you have posted). 'Like' the discussion post(s) that you too wish to further discuss in class.
