Question: In TP 1 , you learned that hydrogen is generated from one of the reactions of methanol to make methanal using the Water Ballast Process.
In TP you learned that hydrogen is generated from one of the reactions of methanol to make methanal using the Water Ballast Process. In this project, you will consider the combustion of the vent gas, which contains hydrogen in a combustor. You will use the hot flue gas generated from the combustion of the vent gas to produce steam in a steam generator heat exchanger Hence, heat transfer is by convection as being covered in the TP Lectures. Please note that you will not be carrying out equipment design of the combustor. To begin, each group would need to analyse their PFDs from TP to accommodate the additional pieces of equipment required for this task. Groups are advised to study the PFDs in TP Lecture Notes to help them with the process synthesis around the combustor and heat exchanger steam generator for this project. Each group should then provide a revised PFD to show the additional pieces of equipment they CHEMICAL ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY, MUSCAT UNIVERSITY, MUSCAT, OMANrequire to achieve the design intent of producing their specified steam. The reviewed and updated PFD must be included and discussed in this section, focusing their discussion only on the new additions to the PFD
