Case Scenario You are a senior manager working in an insurance company. In a meeting with your team members, you ask middle managers about the recent sub-par performance in the department and their thoughts about the reasons behind it. They state that their performance goals are set too high, with the vast majority of their employees missing their individual targets across the board. You understand that insurance is a highly stressful job. Employees need to be happy, satisfied, and motivated to be able to perform the best. Hence, you decide to work on increasing the motivation level of employees to enable them to meet their targets. In this course, you studied various need-based and process-based motivational theories as follows: Need-Based Theories: - Maslow's Hierarchy Theory and the five categories of basic human needs - The ERG Theory, which compressed Maslow's five categories into three - The Two-Factor Theory, which describes factors that either motivate people or make them dissatisfied - The Acquired-Needs Model (David McClelland's need-based theory), which describes stable and dominant characteristics in human beings that drive behaviour Process-Based Theories: - Equity Theory, which describes the perception of fairness in motivating employees - Expectancy Theory, which describes the rational calculations employees do to evaluate their situation using three factors - Reinforcement Theory, which describes that behaviour is a function of its outcomes Questions: a. Out of the theories of motivation given above, pick any two that you think are best for describing human behaviour in the workplace. Explain the theories in detail along with a diagrammatic representation of each. b. Based on the theories you choose, suggest how you would construct a work environment using motivational strategies such as reward strategies, work-life balance considerations, and pay or compensation, to handle the situation given in the case scenario above
