I found Woodberry's essay interesting in that she expresses both our reliance on the divine and on each other as human beings. This idea really resonates with me because one of my core values is faithnot so much a spiritual faith, but a belief in myself. Unlike Woodberry, I never had a reliance on others because for most of my growing-up years, I was left to fend for myself and take care of my little brother while my mother struggled with addiction. This core value developed because I had the mindset that if something needed to get done, I would have to do it. I made sure my brother had clean clothes and breakfast before he went off to school. I did the grocery shopping, made sure the bills got paid, and cleaned the house. I maintained good grades in school and always believed I would go to college one day even when others doubted me. Because I had faith in myself, I never gave up, and this has made all the difference in my life. Peer Response (first peer response due by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday; second peer response due by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday) Respond to your classmates and comment on any aspect of their posts. In responding to peers, you should consider the following questions: What was your reaction to their selected essay? What about the selected essay stood out to you? Can you relate to your classmate's core value(s) and/or personal connection with the author? Explain Sample Peer Response Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Woodberry's essay and your personal experiences. I had a very different reaction to "We Are All Stardust." While I understand Woodberry's perspective, I have never really embraced the idea of a higher being. I certainly believe that we are largely impacted by our connections to others, but for me the "divine" is not part of that. I do find it interesting that Woodberry's values and your values were really impacted by your experiences with your fathers. I have never really thought about the impact of my father's values on my values, but as I think more about what he believes, it is clear to me that I share many of his values. I guess our upbringing impacts us in ways we don't always realize.
