Industry Interview Project

Each student is required to interview one development professional in the sports industry and provide a reflection paper from the interview. Students are welcome to utilize any level of sports (professional, intercollegiate, corporate, etc.) and must reach out to schedule a phone or video call interview with the professional.

Topics covered should include but are not limited to: learning the individuals career path, the organization they work for and their day-to-day role, pros and cons of working in fundraising, advice on finding a job and working in sports, and developing a career in the sports industry.

The goal of this assignment is for the student to learn first-hand what it is like to work in the sports industry, in addition to serving as a networking opportunity to meet sports professionals.

*The student is responsible for typing and submitting his or her questions and the persons responses. The student should submit the Q&A portion of their interview. Following the question and answer portion of the paper, the student will write a 2-3 page paper reflecting on the interview process and their experience. Students should provide insights on what they learned, both positive and negative, and also how this experience can help prepare them for a potential career in a sports related field.
