Information Report
Length: 2-3 pages, Assignment Details
The boss of your company/store/business has decided to focus the seasonal campaign for this year
on a two-pronged approach focused on any season with a focus on any holiday. One prong is online
sales and marketing, and the boss has that covered. The second prong, since so many consumers
have been trying to support local businesses after the pandemic as much as possible, is to attend a
local trade show or holiday show/event.
Assume the Abbotsford Tradex is going to host an event in the near future that would be a perfect
showcase for your companys products/services [examples that may be the best fit for your
company]:
Christmas craft and food fair
Home and business show that highlights local companies
Home & Backyard Living Expo
BC Sportsmen Show
Instructions
The boss has asked you to inspect the Tradex location to see what would be involved in having a
display at the show. Specifically, you are asked to report on the following:
Location, access, parking of the venue
Theme/focus of the show (you will need to use your imagination for this one)
How your booth would fit in to the theme
Layout of the venue and location and size of your booth
Technical considerations such as power, signage, location, setup and take down, security, and
more. Fill in as many details as you think your boss would need here
Fill in any details that may be appropriate or useful to your reader. Most of the information you
need can be found on the Tradex website at TradeBC website Any other details can be made
up as long as they are reasonable.
Include two graphics. One should be a sketch of your booth layout/setup (draw a sketch and then
take a picture of it for in your report). The second could be anything you choose: an image or figure
from the Tradex site to showcase one element of your booth design, something to help the reader
understand the theme, a map or floorplan layout, or a table of important facts. Remember to label
and refer to your figures correctly.
Have a look at the rubric (attached here), which is similar to the one used for your Module 2
information report, but with an additional criterion of Graphics. Use document design strategies and
plain language to keep it clear and succinct.
A3. Information Report Rubric
Content 30%: The report answers all the readers questions/gives enough information. It includes
all the necessary and expected elements to fulfill its purpose. The information is specific, accurate,
and unambiguous. The information is based on careful and credible research. The message is brief
and to the point, and the conclusions are clear.
Organization 30%: The subject line summarizes the central idea with specific wording. The
summary provides sufficient background to orient the reader and gives the main findings without
too much detail. The findings explain details in a logical arrangement, enhance readability by using
short sentences, short paragraphs, and parallel construction for similar ideas, and provide transitions
between paragraphs and sections to improve the flow and make logical connections. Graphic
highlighting with headings, bulleted or numbered lists, and effective use of white space enhance the
reports organization. The conclusions gather the main findings from the reports body and avoid
introducing new information.
Tone and Style 20%: The report is written in a conversational but professional tone, using a
simple, yet precise vocabulary in plain language. It avoids opening fillers and long lead-ins to
sentences. The writing focuses on reader benefits, avoids biased or negative language, and exhibits
error-free grammar, spelling, and usage.
Graphics 20%: Graphics add meaning to the report content. They are easy to follow. Graphics are
introduced, labelled, and explained. References for material in the graphics are provided where
necessary
