Insecticide used to be distributed with a spray gun as shown in figure (a). To activate the spray atomiser, a plunger is pushed inwards which generates a high pressure at location 1. The air then flows through a contraction, to location 2 which results in the insecticide being drawn up from the reservoir. The insecticide becomes suspended in the air which then exits the nozzle as a fine spray (location 4).
