Instructions are dependent on each other when one will have to wait on another to finish first. These can be caused by reads after writes $($the normal dependency which needs the instruction to exit the pipeline$),$ or a write after write or a write after a read which merely have to take place after the previous instruction. Read after reads are not dependencies. Draw read after writes as upwards pointing arrows, and writes after reads or writes as downwards ones.
