Your objective is to write a properly formatted, error free business document. You may choose your own subject for the communication, keeping in mind to use the proper approach for the intended audience. The message must be clear and I must be able to identify which approach you have used. For reference, you may use the chart on the "Organizing the Message Content" page in Lesson 2 of this module. Your message may take the form of one of the following types of written communication:

  • Email

  • Memo

  • Letter

  • Report

Important: There is a minimum word count of 100 words; messages should be long enough to communicate effectively, there is no maximum word count.

Purpose

The reason for this assignment is to practice our effective written communication skills such as proofreading, editing, formatting, tone, word choice, and adjusting the message for the reader. Going into the administrative profession, it is of the utmost importance to be able to communicate clearly and effectively in all forms of communication. With the overwhelming reliance on technology, sometimes we forget to take a minute and draft our work before diving right in, mistakes get missed and wires get crossed because you are doing too many things at the same time. This assignment is an opportunity to develop the proper protocol when drafting and creating written communication that reflects us, our department and our company.
