Interview a manager in a role that is responsible for supervising staff and prepare a report summarizing the interview:

1. You will need approximately 30 minutes to interview the supervisor.
2. Identify and write a brief description of the supervisor interviewed. Include the industry, length of time in a supervisory role and number of people currently reporting to this person.
3. Prepare a report summarizing the responses to the questions. (point form is acceptable)
4. Evaluate the supervisors effectiveness or ineffectiveness based upon the responses to the questions. Defend your position.
5. Write a brief commentary describing your key observations, reflections, comments and criticisms in reaction to the interview. What did you learn?
6. The report should be approximately 3 pages, typed double space using 10 or 12 font.

1. What challenges or difficulties did this supervisor encounter when he/she was first put into the role of a supervisor? How did he/she deal with these challenges.

2. What does he/she think it takes to be an effective supervisor? Describe the skills and competencies that this manager feels are necessary.

3. What expectations of supervisors have changed over the past 10 years? 20 years? 30+ years?

4. Describe what type of performance evaluation that this supervisor practices. Discuss formal and informal methods of performance evaluation used to manage staff.

5. What specific things is this Supervisor doing to manage his/her time? What time management strategies might help better manage his/her time?

6. What strategies and actions does this supervisor take to maximize employee motivation?
