As I got close to the end of the year, I realized I was not going to make the goal, and would be off by $800. The reason I was not meeting the goal was that I was unable to save in June as I had an unexpected home repair expense. The action I took was to borrow $900 through a very low interest loan in November. I began paying it back in December, and was able to use the remaining 5800 towards the purchase of my car. I also raised my credit score as / continued to pay of the loon in a timely fashion. I think this was the best solution for me because I really needed the car for work and I did not want to ask my friends for money.
