Instructions: You are the clinical nutrition manager. Using the information in the scenario below, create a master shift schedule and a one-week, single-use schedule in the template provided on Canvas for a clinical nutrition department. You will first need to figure out how many FTES you need per week (show you math on the scheduling template). In the template, for the weekday master shift schedule, place horizontal lines, like the example in class and in your book (pg. 388), to show the shifts needed to cover the weekly patient load. In the template, for the single-use schedule, list the hour time frame that the clinician is to work that day. Recommend also putting the number of hours that will be for the day in parenthesis for each clinician. See example on the schedule template. Scenario: Clinical Nutrition Dept. is open 5 days per week. One RD must be on-call over the weekend. Usually accumulates to 7 labor hours total per weekend. RDS need to cover on average 230 patient consults and follow-up appointments per week (weekdays only, does not include weekend consults). Productivity is on average 15 patients per clinician/ 8-hour workday. Scheduling stipulations: Must always have a clinician on during the week (M-F 6am-6pm, 1 hour lunch). Must have 1 clinician take the pager for the weekend (Sa-Su, usually counts as 7 hours of paid time). Do not go over 40 hours per week for any employee (PTO is not approved). You must also be sure to give each full-time employee at least 30 hours per week. Part-time and PRN employees can work up to 40 hours per week. Part-time employees must have at least 10 hours per week. PRN have no minimum hour requirement. Learning Objectives: • Apply critical thinking skills (KRDN 1.3) • Demonstrate effective and professional oral and written communication and documentation (KRDN 2.1). • Identify and describe the work of inter-professional teams and the roles of others with whom the registered dietitian nutritionist collaborates in the delivery of food and nutrition services (KRDN 2.5). • Apply the principles of human resource management to different situations (KRDN 4.4). • Analyze data for assessment and evaluate data to be used in decision-making for continuous quality improvement (KRDN 4.6). 6am 7am Clinical Nutrition Department Weekday Shift Schedule 8am 9am 10am 11am 12am 1pm 2pm 3pm 4pm 5pm 6pm Clinician 1.0 FTE Total clinicians on the floor per day Mon 8am-5pm (8) Clinical Nutrition Department Single-use Schedule for Week of Thurs Tues Wed Fri Sat Sun Total Labor Hours per Week per Clinician Instructions: You are the clinical nutrition manager.
