The league attracts highly skilled players from all over Greater Accra to play at this level. The GABL is one of four sports leagues in Greater Accra, along with Volleyball, the Handball League, and the Hockey League. In Ghana, it seems basketball has the smallest total fan base of the four sports leagues, the least revenue from television, and the least sponsorship. In contrast, hockey is the most popular of these four major sports in Ghana. GABL fan base is more affluent and well- educated than the fan base of the other sports. In addition, GABL ticket prices have traditionally been higher than those of the other sports. Like any business, the GABL is interested in protecting its market position and growing the league as a whole. In addition to managing the league's day-to-day activities, the league's President, his staff, and the 22 team owners are all charged with the longer-term responsibility of growing the sport and finding new revenue sources while maintaining current levels of fan and sponsor support.
