Interviewing a Manager - Individual Assignment - 20% Overview: The term paper consists of (3) three parts. The first part is to create a prospect list of Senior Managers who might be candidates for an interview. Consider the President, Vice President or a department manager who work in an organization and who manage a team (more than 3) employees, OR they manage projects within a company with various internal/external personnel. The learning in this assignment is to experience the skills required to prospect, as well as the skills involved in preparing for a business meeting. You will also practice the skill and art of asking good quality probing questions in order to gain valuable information with which to generate your report. Part 1 Generate a Prospect list of at least three potential candidates (management professionals) which you want to call in order to secure an appointment for your information interview. Part 2 You must have a confirmed appointment booked by (and not scheduled before) November 13 and a list of the probing questions you plan to use to gain information about the manager's perspective on the functions of a manager - Planning, Organization, Leading & Controlling. The purpose of the questions is to prepare you before you go into the meeting and to help you focus on having the Manager talk about issues that you want to gain information about. The questions are based on the concepts we have learned both in class and from the textbook. ** QUESTIONS MUST BE HANDED IN ON NOV 13th, AND BE APPROVED BY INSRTUCTOR PRIOR TO INTERVIEW - NO EXCEPTIONS. Part 3 Submit a short 3 to 5-minute video presentation (10 marks total) on two key learings you achieved from this assignment. You should have the following two sections: Overview of whom you targeted (prospect list) and why you chose this person. What were the five (5) key learnings you walked away with from doing this assignment? What did you learn from the person you interviewed? After interviewing this person, which areas of management would you like to strengthen in your skill set (6 marks) Describe the manager's thoughts about how he/she practices the four management functions (4 marks).
