It is now time to complete the productivity study you began at the end chapter 2 I Use genuine production figures together with relevant information on production inputs and outputs carry out a quantitative productivity study on your own work station.
PART 1- Preparatory work to identify qualitative factors influencing productivity
i. Work alone to create a list of all qualitative factors that you believe influence productivity in your work station, make use of the 6Ms to help you with this exercise .
ii. For each qualitative factor identified describe how changes in other factors (quantitative or qualitative) could influence that variable. State who (if anybody) has the ability to bring about those changes.
PART 2- Work as a team to carry out RCA
You will need to form a team with +/-5 other members of your class (preferably colleagues involved in the same stage of production as yourself), you will need to work together to carry out a Root Cause Analysis. Your facilitator will provide you with a real life production problem on which to base your analysis. Although you are working as a team you should provide your own individual deliverables for marking at each stage of the exercise.
i. Work as a team to define the problem with which you are presented as clearly as you can, create a comprehensive list of the data you will need to collect in order to analyse the problem.
ii. Each member of the team should be allocated different data to collect, you (i.e. each person) should attempt to use at least 3 different qualitative data collection techniques. Carefully plan how you will use each technique (e.g. make checklists, plan questions etc...), when you have finished collecting data you should report back to the team on what you did, and how effective you found each of the techniques.
iii. Display the data you have collected in a report (you will need to categorise the data, then use appropriate analysis techniques such as graphs, tables of frequency, modal analysis etc...). Present
