Read scenario 2. Mr Collins has been in a general medical ward for five days. The following is an extract from a letter written by Mr Collins' family addressed to the Unit Manager of the ward. "It is with great concern that we, the family of Mr Collins, share our observation of the general care provided to our father. There appears to be a general sense of disorganization and a lack of leadership about who attends to our father's needs. The nurse assigned to our father is always on 'tea' when we ask for anything. How can that be? Is there only one person delegated to attend to our father's needs, and who knows anything about his care? Does no one seem to take any responsibility? Our father now has a sore on his buttock and appears to have lost a great deal of weight. The only nurse with purple epaulets we ever see is 'shuffling paper' at the nurses' station - what a waste of time. Does she ever see the patients? There have been a few student nurses who try to be helpful, but they also seem lost and not sure what to do." 2.
