Iteration #3 Assignment

Solution Testing - 5%

Due: See Course Outline

MAKE A COPY OF THIS DOCUMENT AND PUT IT IN YOUR TEAM FOLDER

Once you are confident that you have identified the most important problem for a potential customer group (based on your research), it is time to test the solution you have designed to determine if it really does solve their problem.

Problem

1. Obesity - Age group 25 to 40

2. Digestion - 25 to 40

Solution - sugarcane juice

This research should help you determine:

  1. Whether you understand the real problem
  2. The importance of the problem to your customer group
  3. Whether your solution does/does not solve the problem for your customer group

Enter your responses directly into YOUR COPY of this document and put it in your team folder under iteration 3 by the due date specified by your instructor.

1. Create a Problem/Solution Chart

Problem

Current Solution

Your Solution

Start by describing the problem, the current solution (competitive solutions - how they solve the problem now) then provide a broad-based description of your proposed solution NOT a detailed list of all the features/benefits.

2. Design your Interview

Create a few open-ended questions to start the conversation. Your questions should focus on whether the proposed solution solves their problem NOT if they like it or would use it. This should be a back-and-forth discussion about your proposed solution. Remember you are not trying to convince them to like/buy your product but you are looking for their honest reactions and feedback even if it is not really what you want to hear. This will help you evolve your offering.

3. Interview at least 10 customers per team.

Remember that the more responses you have, the stronger your data will be. You will summarize the specific responses to the questions at the end of this document.

However, to get a sense of the interviewees overall enthusiasm and need for your proposed solution, complete the chart below immediately after completing each interview.

This is NOT the specific responses to the questions you asked but rather it is a record of their overall enthusiasm about the potential solution based on your observations and discussion during the interview.

Rate each customers views using a score of 0 to 3, with 3 being the highest.

  • Excited and Urgent Need are self explanatory.
  • Impact reflects how important or transformative the adoption of the product will be to the user.
  • Work-around indicates that the customer has been solving the problem with a home-grown solution.

If they have an urgent need for a solution, are already trying to come up with a workable solution and the solution would have a big impact on them, AND they get very excited about your solution, you may have something.

4. Analyze and Summarize your Key Findings/Learning

Provide a summary of your teams interpretation of the overall findings of your interviews by answering the following questions.

  1. What are the most important things you learned from your research? Look for patterns and similarities in the responses to the interview questions as well as the ratings in the chart. Identify at least 3 key findings.

  1. What does this mean for your venture?

    1. Explain how well your solution does/does not solve the problem for your customer group:
  • Dead on
  • Somewhat
  • Not exactly

c. If it does not or only somewhat solves their problem, what changes will you make?

5. Results of your interviews

Provide a summary of the specific responses for each of your interviews. Include the persons name, a brief description and a summary of your conversation. Add space as required.
