Joanna and Leroy Williams have been married for 15 years. They have two children, Shoshana, age 12, and James, age 9. While Leroy always drank, it has only been a problem for the last 6 years. He will come home from work and drink the rest of the evening. Leroy refuses to help with any of the household chores or childcare responsibilities. He is verbally and emotionally abusive to Joanna and the children when he’s been drinking and avoidant and withdrawn during the weekend days when he is sober. Joanna and Leroy attempted counseling once and Leroy did attend rehab, but quickly relapsed after 3–4 months. He refuses to return to counseling and does not want Joanna to go either.
