According to (Kramer, 2022) Punctuation is important because it directs your writing's flow. If your writing is a roadway, the punctuation marks are the traffic signs. They show the reader where to pause, where to come to a complete stop, and how to interpret the phrases they come across.

Rules and usages of punctuation are different for different languages: For example

• French has different quotation marks: . So does German "
• French has a space before the question mark, exclamation mark, colon, and semicolon
• Spanish has paired question mark ? and exclamation mark !

According to (Kumar, 2018) Just like many other languages, punctuation symbols are essential in Hindi. They help us determine the structure and organization of the written language and the intonation during reading.

Let me show you some of the common punctuation marks that are used in Hindi and how to use them.

1. (|) (Full Stop)

This punctuation mark comes after the end of a sentence in Hindi. It is different from the English entire stop/period (.) and it is represented by a vertical bar.

Example:

| (Today, I had a good food.)

1. (,) (Comma)

This punctuation mark is used when a sentence contains two similar clauses, or a compound sentence contains similar sub-sentences. It is used just like its English counterpart.

Examples:

1. 19, , 1956 (19, September, 1956)
2. , - | (Rakesh had lost all of his property, land and reputation)
