Objective:
This handson exercise is designed to familiarize you with creating EC instances
and connecting it to the Remote Desktop app.
To learn how to use AWS console and its services.
For each lab assignment you need to provide a screenshot of your result.
Lab Instructions:
Log in to the AWS management console.
Go to Compute Services and click on EC Then, EC Instances
Click on Launch Instance
Choose an AMI: Select Microsoft Windows Server Base Make sure it is free tier
eligible.
Choosing an instance type: Make sure it is pointed to free tier eligible and click on
Review and Launch.
Review Instance launch: Leave the other columns by default and then launch
Select Create a new key pair.
Give a name of your choice as key pair example: ITWeek
Download the key pair.
Launch the instances.
Now, scroll down to click view instances.
Wait until the instance state changes from pending to running.
In the Description panel below, observe the right column which has Public DNS
Now open the Remote Desktop Connection Desktop app.
The new dialog box pops up Public DNS from the step will be assigned to the
name of the computer and username can be given as administrator. Then, press
connect.
A window appears asking for the password for the Administrator account. To
get that, you need to go back to the console.
Now, select the instance and go to Actions Get Windows password.
In order to decrypt the password, you need to upload the key pair file downloaded in
step
Click on decrypt password A window appears which has the password. Copy the
password.
Now, back in the remote desktop session as in step Paste the password and
click ok
A window pops up Click yes to continue connecting.
Connection is established and now you are logged in as an administrator and
windows desktop has been set up
At the end, to disconnect, close the window which is open.
Go to the console again to terminate the instances. Actions Instance state
Terminate. A window appears. Click on Yes Terminate
Thus, you have created an EC instance with windows running on it and
connecting to the instance using Remote Desktop app and terminating these.
