Lab Assignment $2$: Setting up an Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud Instance.

Objective:

$$ This hands$-$on exercise is designed to familiarize you with creating EC$2$ instances

and connecting it to the Remote Desktop app.

$$ To learn how to use AWS console and its services.

$$ For each lab assignment you need to provide a screenshot of your result.

Lab Instructions:

$1)$ Log in to the AWS management console.

$2)$ Go to Compute Services and click on EC$2.$ Then, EC$2->$ Instances

$3)$ Click on $$Launch Instance$.$

$4)$ Choose an AMI: Select $$Microsoft Windows Server Base $.$ Make sure it is free tier

eligible.

$5)$ Choosing an instance type: Make sure it is pointed to $$free tier eligible$$ and click on

Review and Launch.

$6)$ Review Instance launch: Leave the other columns by default and then $$launch$.$

$7)$ Select Create a new key pair.

$8)$ Give a name of your choice as key pair $($example: IT$442$Week$2)$

$9)$ Download the key pair.

$10)$ Launch the instances.

$11)$ Now, scroll down to click view instances.

$12)$ Wait until the instance state changes from pending to running.

$13)$In the Description panel below, observe the right column which has Public DNS$.$

$14)$Now$,$ open the $$Remote Desktop Connection$$ Desktop app.

$15)$ The new dialog box pops up$.$ Public DNS $($from the step $13)$ will be assigned to the

name of the computer and username can be given as administrator. Then, press

connect.

$16)$ A window appears asking for the password for the Administrator account. To

get that, you need to go back to the console.

$17)$ Now, select the instance and go to Actions $->$ Get Windows password.

$18)$ In order to decrypt the password, you need to upload the key pair file downloaded in

step $9.$

$19)$ Click on $$decrypt password$.$ A window appears which has the password. Copy the

password.

$20)$ Now, back in the remote desktop session as in step $16.$ Paste the password and

click $$ok$.$

$21)$ A window pops up$.$ Click $$yes$$ to continue connecting.

$22)$ Connection is established and now you are logged in as an administrator and

windows desktop has been set up$.$

$23)$ At the end, to disconnect, close the window which is open.

$24)$ Go to the console again to terminate the instances. Actions $->$ Instance state $->$

Terminate. A window appears. Click on $$Yes$,$ Terminate$.$

$25)$ Thus, you have created an EC$2$ instance with windows running on it and

connecting to the instance using Remote Desktop app and terminating these.

overall brief description of what you have done.

B$)$ Save your results $($screen captures$)$ in one Microsoft Word format file.
